Free help, now
These organisations give free information and support. Contact one of them first.
Short answer
Free, confidential first steps if you work without a contract or are being exploited, and who to call.
Information, not legal advice. MovItaly is not a law firm. Check with the questura or consulate before you act.
If you are in danger
Call 112 for an emergency. For exploitation, forced labour or trafficking call the free anti-trafficking line 800 290 290 (24 hours, multilingual, free, anonymous). VERIFY the number before publishing.
Who can help, for free
- Anti-trafficking line 800 290 290
- advice and shelter, also if you have no permesso.
- Ispettorato Nazionale del Lavoro (INL)
- you can ask for an inspection of your employer.
- Unions (CGIL, CISL, UIL) and patronati
- free advice and help to claim unpaid wages.
- Caritas and ASGI
- free legal orientation for migrants. VERIFY local contacts.
Do this today
- Do not sign a resignation or a receipt for money you did not get.
- Save proof: messages, photos of the workplace, bank transfers, names of coworkers, dates and hours.
- Write down the employer's name, address and how you were hired.
- Contact one organisation above. You decide what happens next.
Will reporting get me deported?
Not automatically. Italian law has protections for people who report serious exploitation (art. 18 and art. 22 c.12-quater of the Testo Unico Immigrazione, VERIFY). A police or anti-trafficking organisation can explain your options before you decide. Ask for a free interpreter.
