Who is this for
Anyone with a permesso di soggiorno nearing expiry.
Requirements
A valid permit close to expiry and your supporting documents.
Steps
- Find your expiry date.
- Ask the post office kit counter or your patronato which deadline applies.
- File early and keep every receipt.
Costs & timing
General guides say file up to 60 days before expiry. The Normattiva text of D.Lgs. 83/2026 changes several deadlines in art. 5 of D.Lgs. 286/1998 from 60 to 90 days (including the renewal filing window and the time to issue or renew). Which rule applies to you depends on the permit type.
Common mistakes
Filing at the last minute or after expiry.
Where to get help
